Learn about extreme heat in Philadelphia and what you can do to prepare and get through the season safely.

Heat Safety Training for Trusted Messengers

  • Tuesday, July 14 from 11 am – 12 pm
    • For community leaders, service providers, and educators to learn how to keep clients and neighbors safe.

Protect Yourself and Others

  • Wash your hands often and well.
  • Skip events if you are not feeling well.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Protect yourself against mosquitoes and ticks.

Stay Cool during Extreme Heat

  • Drink water and stay hydrated.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Find ways to stay cool, indoors and outside.
  • Find more heat safety tips at phila.gov/heat.

Stay Informed about Air Quality

  • Poor air quality days are rare in Philadelphia, but they do happen.
  • Check the air quality near you in real time at phila.gov/breathephilly.
  • Limit time spent outdoors on days when air quality is poor.

When, Where, and How to Seek Care

  • Seek medical care when you need it.
  • If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.
  • Visit an urgent care center for issues that are not emergent.
    • Call ahead to confirm hours and availability.
  • Visit a pharmacy for over-the-counter medications.
