Shelters

The resources and guidance below are for use by residential shelter facilities in controlling the spread of communicable disease.

Special Reporting Instructions for Shelters

Prompt identification, reporting, and the use of standard precautions is key in limiting the spread of communicable diseases among residents and staff at shelters, safe havens, and other congregate living sites.

PDPH can provide:

  • Disease-specific measures for preventing spread to others
  • Guidance on managing exposed contacts
  • Recommendations for implementing time-sensitive interventions, such as vaccines or medications, for certain diseases

Sites or agencies should notify PDPH of any resident or staff with a reportable communicable disease. PDPH can also assist with questions or concerns about communicable disease that are not reportable.
