Gonorrhea is a common STD caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Teenagers and young adults are disproportionately affected. As with chlamydia, untreated gonorrhea may lead to PID, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. Gonococcal infections are routinely notifiable diseases and conditions and should be reported to PDPH within 5 days.
