The Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Division of Disease Control (DDC) extensively reviews disease reports of the city’s reportable conditions for the purpose of providing an accurate assessment of disease burden in our city. The Annual Report for each year provides an epidemiological summary of those conditions reported to DDC. The criteria for reporting cases is based on the CDC case definitions for the year.
While there are currently 70 medical conditions that health care providers or laboratories must report to the DDC, this document highlights the most commonly reported conditions in Philadelphia as well as any conditions that are of special public health importance. It serves as an important resource to summarize Philadelphia disease trends and DDC disease surveillance activities for the year.
