The Health Alert Network (HAN)
The HAN is an emergency notification system for public health, health care, and emergency response personnel. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health uses the HAN to deliver time-critical, health-related information to designated health partners.

HAN messages issued by PDPH may be developed by PDPH, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). HAN messages are sent via e-mail and broadcast fax to registered users. Health alerts and related information are also accessible on the HIP.

HAN messages are designated by their level of urgency:
- Conveys the highest level of importance; warrants immediate action or attention.
- Provides important information for a specific incident or situation; may not require immediate action.
- Provides updated information regarding an incident or situation; unlikely to require immediate action.
- Provides updated information; requires no immediate action.

The HAN is part of a national initiative launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1999.
