Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

STD Consultation

Description:
Provide advice and consultation to doctors, nurses, and other community partners about the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.

Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Screenings

Description:
Provide or support gonorrhea and chlamydia screening services to public and private providers throughout Philadelphia.

Sex Partners Referrals

Description:
Offering referral, testing, and treatment to the sex partners of infected people.
Contact:
Healthcare providers can refer the sex partners of infected people to the walk-in STD clinics at Health Center 1 and 5 to be seen by Health Department Physicians

Tuberculosis (TB)

TB Consultation

Description:
Clinicians can request consultation from DDC regarding a patient suspected or confirmed case of Tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis Contact Investigation and Tracking

Description:
PDPH will follow-up with individuals identified to have tuberculosis to determine contacts, provide testing, and offer treatment as needed to prevent the spread of the TB.
Contact:
Report tuberculosis cases to the Philadelphia Department of Public Health by calling 215-685-6873 during business hours and submitting via fax the Pediatric or Adult TB Reporting Form below to 215-685-6477.

Case Management/Treatment/Referrals

Description:
PDPH provides case management and treatment for all patients with confirmed cases of TB. The Lawrence F. Flick Memorial Center provides Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), medications, and clinical evaluations free of charge. DOT is the preferred standard of care for patients with active tuberculosis. PDPH also provides preventative therapy to patients with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI).

Communicable Diseases Consultation

Description:
PDPH is available to provide assistance in diagnosis or guidance for treatment of communicable diseases. PDPH can facilitate testing that requires public health laboratory services.

Infection Control Consultation

Description:
PDPH is available to provide infection control consultation and when necessary can facilitate a discussion with the PA DoH and CDC to come up with a coordinated solution.

Animal Bite and Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Consultation

Description:
PDPH will investigate an animal bite/exposure and if available submit the biting animal to the Public Health Laboratory to be tested for rabies. PDPH will contact the victim with recommendations and test results.

Outbreak Investigation

Description:
PDPH will follow-up with individuals identified as possible cases of a disease to investigate the source of a disease outbreak or contain the disease before an outbreak occurs. This service includes providing prophylaxis at Universities when necessary.
